1.  Determine your Budget

2.  Decide what Purpose your Vehicle will Serve

Do you love the outdoors?  Do you have several children?  Do you drive long distances and need good gas mileage?  All of these factors will help you decide which type of vehicle to choose.

Outfitting Your Jeep® Vehicle 101 – Lighting

Posted on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 10:00 am by Alan and Jackie Ellis.

In this installment of the Outfitting Your Jeep® vehicle blog series, we’re going to talk about some of the auxiliary lighting options for your Jeep brand vehicle. If you have any of the new 2011 Jeep Wrangler models, you are already familiar with one of the types of auxiliary lighting because bumper fog lamps are standard equipment. But if your older Wrangler or Jeep model did not have this option, you may want to consider additional exterior lighting to enhance your Jeep 4×4 lifestyle experience. Off-road lighting is specifically designed with rugged weatherproof construction and is made to endure difficult off-roading conditions. While many people add extra lighting to enjoy night off-roading or to improve visibility in foul weather conditions, it is equally wonderful at illuminating a great campsite in the backcountry. Whatever the reason, additional lighting can add personality and real function to any Jeep brand vehicle.

Choosing exterior auxiliary lighting may appear to be a daunting task; so hopefully, this blog will help you sort through some of your options. First, do you need additional lighting because you want to off-road at night or do you live in an area with foul weather? Do you like to go hunting and fishing in the dark or do you just like the way extra lights look on your Jeep vehicle? You’ll need to decide on the use for your additional lights as this can sometimes be the deciding factor in where they are mounted. Some of the mounting options include: The front bumper, a light bar on the front bumper, light bars on the top, or mounted on the windshield frame. Each location has its advantages depending on the purpose of the lighting.

Tis the Season - SNOW & MUD DRIVING TIPS

Generally, when snow or mud is present on the driving surface, it is the right time to engage your on-demand or part-time 4WD system. If you have an all-time system like Quadra-Trac I®, there is no input required from you. In heavy snow, when pulling a load, or for additional control at slower speeds, shift the transmission to a low gear and shift the transfer case to 4-LO if necessary (Quadra-Trac I does not offer a low range). Don't shift to a lower gear than necessary to maintain momentum. Over-revving the engine can spin the wheels and traction will be lost. If you begin to lose traction in snow or mud, turn your steering wheel back and forth rapidly. This will generally help the wheels bite into fresh terrain and pull you through. If traction is lost, STOP. Wheel spinning will just dig you in deeper. The key is to maintain forward momentum.
